Tradtional acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years, and has been integrating itself into western medicine in recent years.

Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall wellbeing of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms.

According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body’s motivating energy – known as Qi – moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin.

Modern research has found that acupuncture can be effective for a wide range of common health conditions:

  • Musculoskeletal pain (e.g. back and neck pain, osteoarthritis of the knee)
  • Gynaecological concerns (hormone regulation, PCOS, endometriosis, perimenopausal symptoms),
  • IVF support (female and male),
  • Headaches and migraines,
  • Mental health (stress, anxiety, low moods)
  • Digestive issues (IBS),
  • Sleep disorders and fatigue

The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) provides an extensive list of evidence-based fact sheets to provide accurate and unbiased information for a variety of conditions.
